# How to Transfer Tickets to Another Event (Organiser-Initiated)

## Move a purchaser's tickets to a different event yourself, without needing a formal transfer request

If a purchaser needs to move to a different one of your events — and hasn't submitted a formal transfer request — you can transfer their tickets directly from the Sales List.

Is this the right article? If the purchaser already submitted a transfer request through their My Tickets page, you'll respond to that via our guide on approving or declining a ticket transfer request instead.[How to approve or decline a transfer request](https://help.stickytickets.com.au/transfer-ticket-requests?hsLang=en)This article covers initiating a transfer yourself, with no prior request needed.

- Choose the new ticket type(s) from the dropdown, write a brief message for the purchaser (included in their confirmation email), and select Confirm Transfer.

The purchaser will receive a new confirmation email and e-tickets once the transfer is complete.

⚠️ **The ticket's price doesn't change, and the money it carries doesn't always move with it.** These are two separate things worth understanding before you transfer a ticket.

---

**The ticket price doesn't change**

Transferring a ticket does not reprice it — the amount originally paid carries over to the new event as-is.

- **Higher-priced original ticket moved to a cheaper event:** the ticket keeps its original (higher) price on the new event. There's no automatic refund of the difference to the purchaser — you'd need to arrange that yourself if you want to.
- **Lower-priced original ticket moved to a pricier event:** the ticket keeps its original (lower) price, and isn't charged the difference.

If you'd rather avoid manually settling a price difference, it's often simpler to refund the original ticket and have the purchaser buy a new one for the destination event.

**Whether the money moves depends on what the original event still owes you**

Separately from price, whether the originally paid amount actually transfers from Event A to Event B depends on how much Event A still owes you as the organiser:

- If Event A hasn't been paid out yet (or still owes you enough to cover that ticket), the ticket's original amount — and its booking fee — moves with it to Event B.
- If Event A has already been paid out (owes you $0), the money stays with Event A, and the transferred ticket shows as $0 in Event B's new order.
- This is checked ticket by ticket — in a multi-ticket order, some tickets can move their money across while others don't, depending on how much balance remains at the time of transfer.
- Offline sales always move, regardless of payout status.

**Example:** A purchaser bought 2 tickets on Event A at $50 each (plus a $3 booking fee each), transferred to a $30 ticket type on Event B:

| **Event A's remaining balance owed to you** | **What happens** |
| --- | --- |
| $500 owing (nothing paid out yet) | Both tickets' money moves. Event B's new order shows 2 × $50 = $100 (not 2 × $30). Event A's balance drops by $100. |
| $0 owing (fully paid out) | Neither ticket's money moves. Event B shows both tickets at $0. Event A keeps the $100. |
| $70 owing | One ticket moves ($70 covers $50, leaving $20 remaining). The other ticket doesn't move ($20 isn't enough to cover $50). Event B shows one ticket at $50 and one at $0. Event A keeps $50. |

In every case, the purchaser's tickets are valid and the transfer completes the same way — this only affects how the money is reconciled between your two events, not what the purchaser receives.

**What else happens behind the scenes**

- **Event A (the original event):** its available ticket count increases by the number of tickets transferred out.
- **Event B (the destination event):** a new order is created — online if payment hadn't been received yet, or offline if payment for the original ticket had already been received.

---

**Secure My Refund and transfers**

If the ticket being transferred has Secure My Refund, the protection carries over automatically to the new order — same policy, no new fee, and the purchaser can lodge a fresh claim against the new order if needed.

- Coverage stays at the original ticket price, regardless of the new event's ticket price, any price difference, or whether the ticket's money actually moved to the new event (see above). Even a ticket showing $0 on the new order still carries its full original Secure My Refund coverage.
- The claim window is based on the original event's date, not the new event's date — it doesn't reset when a ticket is transferred.
- Secure My Refund payouts are capped at $1,000 per order.

### **Frequently Asked Questions and Scenarios**

**What's the difference between this and approving a transfer request?**

- This article covers you initiating and completing a transfer directly — no purchaser request required. If a purchaser has already submitted a formal request through My Tickets, use our guide on approving or declining a ticket transfer request instead.

**Will the purchaser be notified?**

- Yes — they'll receive a new confirmation email and e-tickets for the destination event once the transfer is complete.

**Can I transfer only some tickets from an order, not all of them?**

- Yes — you choose which specific ticket(s) in the order to transfer at step 5.

**Does Secure My Refund carry over to the new event?**

- Yes, automatically — same policy, no new fee. Coverage remains based on the original ticket price and the original event date, even if the ticket shows as $0 on the new order (see below).

**Why does a transferred ticket show as $0 in the destination event?**

- This happens when the original event has already been paid out and no longer owes you enough to cover that ticket's value — in that case, the money stays with the original event rather than moving across. The ticket itself is still valid, and if it has Secure My Refund, that coverage still applies at its full original value.

**I can't find the Transfer Tickets button on an order.**

- Confirm the order hasn't already been cancelled or fully refunded — transfers aren't available on those orders.

**The event I want to transfer to isn't showing as an option.**

- Only your own live events are available as transfer destinations.
